How are you?
When someone asks you this, and you are in reasonably good spirits, do you answer:
1) I am well!
2) I am feeling well!
3) I am good.
Or some other variation. Which one is most correct?

Re: How are you?
Wed, January 3, 2007 - 6:03 PMAre you asking what I answer, or which one is "correct?" :)
If I'm feeling upbeat, I'll say "I'm doing well." Or, if I'm feeling more mellow or casual, I'll say "I'm good."
When I think of a proper response to the question, I think of "I am (very) well, thank you. And you?"
To me "feeling well" implies physical or health state only. It doesn't have to, but I think that's the commonest usage. If life in general is going well, then I'd say "I am well" or "I am doing well" or "Things are good." -

Tue, March 6, 2007 - 12:20 PMi always answer that I am well, which receives mixed reactions from people, especially when I am purchasing something. -

Re: How are you?
Tue, March 6, 2007 - 8:54 PMAt work, I say I'm well, since I'm an editor and they'd probably cut off my benefits if I didn't represent.
Outside work, I tend to say either "good, thanks" or "feeling good," since that's what most folks expect.
But on principle, can't bring myself to say "I'm doing good"...unless I'm in the middle of donating to charity or helping an elderly woman across the street.
